Summer Reading

Summer is a time for many things – among them, rest, recreation …and reading! On June 29, 2022, Pope Francis published an Apostolic Letter, Desiderio Desideravi, “On the Liturgical Formation of the People of God.”

In his letter, Pope Francis encourages continuing liturgical formation in the sacred liturgy for all members of the Church – both for the ordained and lay faithful.  He reflects on theological elements of the liturgy, describes the manner in which we ought to celebrate the liturgy, and he reminds us that the liturgy is the “place of [our] encounter with Christ.”  Pope Francis encourages a “rediscovery of a theological understanding of the liturgy and of its importance in the life of the Church.”

I pray that this letter from our Holy Father will encourage us to meditate on the great gift we celebrate every time we celebrate Mass and the sacraments in our Church.
