Fall sports are coming to an end and Advent will soon be upon us. This is a great time to look at your schedules and see where and when you can get more involved in Youth Ministry and our Good Shepherd Parish. There are numerous opportunities for service this November and December and the new year will bring a plethora of special events. We hope to see you in November and December at one or more of our fun service activities!
1st Sundays Donut Hospitality and Ornament Sales
The Youth Ministry is pleased to begin hosting the 1st Sunday of the month after-Mass donuts. This is a wonderful hospitality effort and opportunity to include more teens in service of our Good Shepherd church community. Helping out is easy and a great way to get involved in Youth Ministry. We will need 2 to 3 volunteers after each Sunday Mass to replenish donuts and drinks and 2 to 3 volunteers to set everything up before the 7:30am Mass. Please consider volunteering in this simple way. Contact Miguel miguel@gs-cc.org In addition to passing out Krispy Kreme donuts, the Youth Ministry will assist with selling Good Shepherd's Christmas ornament commemorating 50 years. This is a beautiful keepsake ornament and special gift to commemorate First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation, or other significant events. Ornaments are $20 and we need teens to help sell. Please contact Miguel if you are available. |
Homeless Campout & Service Saturday
If you have not heard yet, November 14 is a busy day! It marks our 3rd Annual Campout for Homeless Awareness and it is Super Service Saturday. We hope all teens and family members can attend one or both events. To read more about the Campout visit the webpage. Teens can register individually or as a team and families with younger children can register as well. The day starts at 2:00pm on November 14. Once everyone builds their shelters we will celebrate Mass together, followed by games, dinner and a presentation on homelessness at 8:30. Then all participants sleep outside in their newly built shelters and the event finishes on November 15 with a sunrise prayer service and pancake breakfast. Concurrently with the Campout, the Families in Action group is hosting our annual Super Service Saturday. The event runs from 1-4pm in Creedon Hall. There will be numerous stations where teens and family members can volunteer: breakfast bags for VICHOP, cards and rosaries for the homebound, placemats for the shelters and more. Donations of breakfast food items are accepted through November 9. Contact Pooja Krumenacker for more information or to volunteer at poojakrum@gmail.com |
Youth Group Sunday Dinners
Youth Ministry has successfully introduced a new tradition to our Sunday Youth Group meetings. If you have been around for the month of October, hopefully you have enjoyed some delicious dinners prepared for our teens by fellow parishioners. We would like to continue this communal meal, but we need parents/parishioners to volunteer to make a meal. The meal can be as simple as pizza, our purpose is to sit together and share. Please visit the SignUpGenius link and pick a date to bring a meal. Join us on November 8 for a delicous meal of homemade lasagna! |
Other Volunteer Opportunities and Ways to Get Involved
There are so many other ways to get involved. In addition to after-Mass donuts. The Youth Ministry team hosts Sharing Sunday on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Volunteers help load the UCM truck and inventory stock. Contact Miguel at miguel@gs-cc.org
The first Thursday of each month, Youth Ministry volunteers feed the hungry at Christ House in Old Town. Volunteers prepare and serve a meal for the many hungry in our community. The next volunteer opportunity if November 5. Contact Mike O'Neil at michaeloneil825@aol.com
