    THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST
Jesus instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist in the Last Supper with his disciples before his crucifixion. We read the story of the last Supper in all 4 Gospels of the New Testament in the Bible. Here in the Gospel of Luke we hear Jesus say to his disciples:

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you." Luke 22:19-20

Here's the same reading in Spanish: Lucas 22:19-20

These are the same words we hear at Mass where, following Jesus' command to the disciples, the priest breaks the bread and blesses the wine, and through the power of the Holy Spirit transforms the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus that we receive when we receive Holy Communion.

The Eucharist is a great mystery in which Jesus makes his home in us so that we may be transformed and become more like Jesus to others. He is food for our journey through life. We "eat Jesus to be like Jesus."
