We continue our Easter mystagogy, by considering today the gift we receive in the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Each year on April 27, I gratefully remember the anniversary of the day I received my First Holy Communion,
and this year, on May 7 and May 14 we rejoice with the young people in our Faith Formation programs as they celebrate this great event in their lives.
The Eucharist is
As the Lord feeds us with spiritual food, this sacrament reminds us of our solidarity with all who are hungry in both material and spiritual ways.
May we never take for granted, or ever fail to reverence, the Most Holy Eucharist, for by this sacrament God satisfies our hungry hearts with the Gift of finest wheat.
The Eucharist is
- the Real Presence of the Body and Blood of Christ;
- the representation of the saving sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus;
- the foretaste of the heavenly banquet;
- the sign of the unity of those who are in full communion with our Church.
