We continue our Easter mystagogy, by considering today the gift of the Spirit we received in the sacrament of Confirmation. We first received the gift of the Holy Spirit in Baptism, but this gift is strengthened in a unique way in the sacrament of Confirmation.
In Confirmation, we are given the power to bear witness to our faith in word and deed.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit which are strengthened in Confirmation include wisdom, understanding, right judgment, knowledge, courage, reverence (piety) and wonder and awe in God’s presence (fear of the Lord).
It is typical for adolescents to prepare for and celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation, but I believe most adults would agree that we need the gifts strengthened in Confirmation as much – if not more! – in adulthood as we needed them in our youth!
May this Easter season continue to be a time of mystagogy for us all, especially as by giving thanks for the gift of our Confirmation, we continue to enter into a deeper understanding of the mysteries of our faith.
