One of the beautiful gifts of our faith is the power of intercessory prayer -
that we can pray for one another.

    Prayer Requests

    Prayer List
Contact the office to add an individual to our parish prayer list, (703) 780-4055, or office@gs-cc.org (You may use this Prayer Request Form.)
    • Our weekly bulletin includes the names of those requesting prayers for general intentions (illness, surgery, special intention); for the recently deceased; and for those serving in harm's way.
    • The Prayers of the Faithful are said at Mass during the Petitions and include those requesting prayers for illness, surgery, special intention, or for the recently deceased.
    • Our Monthly Prayer List includes those requesting prayers for illness, surgery, or special intention and is published on the monitor in the Commons. We also post the names of those serving in Harm's Way.
    • Individuals may request that names be included on the Prayer List but kept anonymous (names will not be published in the bulletin or displayed on the monitors.)

You may also inquire about adding an individual to the list of recipients for our Card Writing Ministry.

    Prayer Intention Book
Parishioners are invited to include prayer requests in our Prayer Intention Book located in the Narthex (just outside the entrance to the worship space). The Book is brought up to the altar at Mass. The intentions are not read aloud.

    Request a Prayer Quilt
Our Prayers and Squares Ministry makes hand-made quilts for those in need of prayers and comfort. Download the request form and either drop it off at the Parish Office or email it to Lisa Shannon, jimlisshan@cox.net

    Mass Intentions

    Guidelines for Mass Intentions
    • Intentions can be scheduled for weekday and weekend Masses. Only one intention is offered at each Mass.
    • Please note, one Mass each weekend is reserved for "All Parishioners' Intentions."
    • An intention may be for an individual (eg. "John Smith"), or a family, (eg. "The Smith Family" or "Joe and Mary Smith").
    • An intention may be for the deceased or the living.
    • The amount of any donation is determined by individual circumstances, and no set amount is required. At Good Shepherd, donations are used to fund parish programs, or returned to the Diocese for special projects, such as support of our retired religious.

How do I request a Mass Intention?

Please stop by the parish office and speak to the receptionist, or call 703-780-4055. Our receptionist will guide you through the process and let you know what dates and Masses are available. We will also ask you for information to help ensure names and pronunciations are correct and to your satisfaction.

How many intentions may I request?

We are blessed to have a large, faithful community, but with that blessing is a challenge. With just about 500 Masses each year, and well over 3,000 families, we sadly realize that not all requests can be fulfilled. We kindly request that you limit intentions to 5 per year.

Are there other options for Mass Intentions?

If you would like to schedule additional Mass intentions, we ask that you consider requesting an intention with some of the organizations affiliated with our visiting clergy, or local parishes, or other options:

    • Missionhurst (Father Michael Hann) - Mass intentions can be offered in their chapel in DC, or your intention can be sent to their mission priests overseas. Direct requests to: dirprom@missionhurst.org
    • Marymount University - Requests are coordinated by our receptionist. Stop by the office or call with your request.
    • Glenmary Home Missioners
    • Holy Cross Association
    • Mary Knoll Society
    • Perpetual Mass Association
    • Poor Clare Monastery of Mary, Mother of the Church
    • Salesian Missions
    • Seraphic Mass Association (Capuchin Mission Ofc, PA)
    • St. Anthony Organization

Please know you are in our prayers.
