    January 3 & 7: CLASSES RESUME

    January 23: Year of Mercy Kick-Off for Families (Teen Volunteers Needed!)


    FAITH FORMATION

    1st YEAR STUDENTS
    On January 10 and 14 (the deadline was extended), students should submit the Works of Mercy Project Proposal Form specifying what work(s) of mercy they want to do and how they will do them. The Works of Mercy Project is due on May 1(Sunday classes) or May 5 (Thursday classes).
     
    2nd YEAR STUDENTS
    Confirmation Requirements
    • Students should by now have an approved Pentecost Project Proposal and have their Pentecost Project underway. The Pentecost Project is due on May 1 (Sunday classes) or May 5 (Thursday classes).
    • See the complete list of Confirmation Requirements on the Teen Faith Formation Page for all requirements, forms, and deadlines. Don’t wait until the last minute to get these completed!
     
    ALL STUDENTS
    Year of Mercy Bulletin Board
    Check out the Middle and High School Year of Mercy Bulletin Board in the RE Hallway between Classrooms 2 and 3. See student responses to the questions we explored at December’s Year of Mercy Kick-Off : “How Can I Show Mercy?” and “How Can I Know Mercy?”
     
    Guide to Teen Volunteer Opportunities
    • The Guide is available on the website in English and Spanish.
    • There is also a hard copy available in the RE Hallway for viewing at the parish.

    VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS

    Year of Mercy Kick-Off for Families
    Saturday, January 23
    5:30pm – 8:00pm


    Teen volunteers are needed to help parish children and adults learn about the Works of Mercy! Stations will be set up around the Hall, each highlighting a Work of Mercy. Volunteers will be assigned a station where they will explain their assigned Work of Mercy through a craft or game.

    All materials and explanations will be provided. Here is a list of some of the stations:

    Forgive Offenses: Make Divine Mercy Chaplet
    Admonish the Sinner: Name that Ten Commandment Game
    Bury the Dead/Pray for the Dead: Make a remembrance card for a loved one (saint picture on one side)
    Visit the Sick: Tie a knot on a prayer quilt and learn about Prayers and Squares
    Clothe the Naked: Clothing relay race
    Give Drink to the Thirsty – Carry pales of “water” to see how heavy buckets of water are for those in Africa with no running water
    Shelter the Homeless: Build Houses out of Cardboard boxes and bricks
    Instruct the Ignorant – Name that Sacrament Game

    NOTE: This a great volunteer opportunity for all 1st Year Works of Mercy Projects and 2nd Year Projects focusing on Caring for Children, Offering Hospitality, and various other areas of need corresponding to the Works of Mercy.
