Be an Advocate for Local Residents who could Lose their Homes
|
On September 22, 2020 a citizen task force will decide whether Fairfax County should move forward with a proposal to develop 26 acres along Richmond Highway, currently the site of two mobile home parks, businesses and a church. If approved, 109 families could be displaced from their homes. The County is seeking public input on this proposal.
Good Shepherd parish is advocating for the Task Force to defer consideration of this proposal so that the issues about the loss of affordable housing as well as the establishment of protections/ provisions for the mobile-home owners can be addressed. This is especially important in light of the fact that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established an Affordable Housing Preservation Task Force at its July 28, 2020 meeting.
“As Fairfax County continues to evolve, we are seeing more and more that older multifamily rental and mobile home communities are threatened by redevelopment,” said Dranesville Supervisor John Foust. “These developments currently provide housing that is affordable for thousands of households who otherwise would simply not be able to reside in Fairfax County. The impacts of diminished income or lost employment among low- to moderate-income households due to COVID-19 have only served to exacerbate the problem.” |
How can you help?

Dear Site Specific Plan Amendment (SSPA) Task Force,
I ask that you reject the proposal PC19-MV-002 for this cycle so that the new Affordable Housing Preservation Task Force has an opportunity to study the issue, develop preservation strategies, and make detailed recommendations about the 109 mobile homes that will be affected by this proposal.
Thank you for being open to public input on this process,
Sincerely,
