It has been a little more than a week since our HS teens and adult volunteers returned from WorkCamp 2015. It truly was a successful week in Shenandoah with many life lessons learned and lasting friendships formed.
The week started out with a lot of rain, but it didn’t slow down GSCCYM. The teens arrived at home base, Stonewall Jackson High School and slowly settled in. The Ichtys symbol ("fish” in Greek) became their uniting symbol. It is their call to “Go Forth and Make Disciples!” and was a lasting theme throughout WorkCamp. The enthusiasm of GS soon spread and we even spotted other teens (without a GS teen present) making the Icthys symbol.
The week was full with so many activities. The days were long with construction and work on the homes in Shenandoah. The breaks and night time were just as busy! We had Adoration, dinner and Mass with Bishop Loverde. We celebrated WorkCamp week birthdays with signing and the Macarena! We even had a GS teen, Adrianna, selected to perform in the talent show on Thursday night.
There was so much to celebrate during WorkCamp, and celebrate we did!! We ended the week with Celebration Thursday where we concluded by sharing ice cream with 1300 other Catholics from the Diocese of Arlington!
The bonds of the GS WorkCamp 2015 team are stronger than ever! We hope these pictures can share at least a small glimpse of the experience we all shared. Thank you for your prayers and support to our teens. We could not have done this without the support of our GSCC Parish!
