Parish Pastoral Council Roles & Responsibilities

In order to model servant leadership, implement the Good Shepherd Parish Constitution as developed by the ReVisioning process, and function effectively as a team, the PPC has clarified the roles and functions of the individuals.  Two PPC members have volunteered for each role, and they will work in collaboration to accomplish the listed functions.  The roles and persons fulfilling those roles are identified with the first person listed accepting the primary accountability to the team for accomplishment of the functions listed below each role.

Chair/Vice-Chair-Katie Savage/Dick Wallace

  • Consult with pastor to plan meetings

  • First contact point for other committees and parish

  • Prepare the agenda with secretary

  • Servants of the group, not authority role

  • Focus the group on a common task

  • Encourage all to participate

  • Are neutral, not evaluating other’s ideas; contribute ideas only when stepping out of Chair role

  • Suggest options, varies methods/procedures

  • Facilitate win/win results thru consensus

Secretary-Carolyn Van Damme/Derek Waterman

  • Prepare agenda with Chair and Pastor

  • Publish agenda

  • Track assignments and monitor tasks

  • Keep a record of basic information and decisions

  • Keep visible record during important discussions

  • Remain neutral; contribute ideas only when stepping out of Secretary role

  • Provide record within one week of meeting

  • Disseminate pertinent info to PPC

Convener-Dick Wallace/Katie Savage

  • Coordinate with Parish scheduler

  • Monitor individual availability

  • Coordinate meetings with Anawin

  • Schedule meetings

  • Notify Parishioners

  • Remind PPC of upcoming meeting

  • Prepare handouts & equipment for meetings

  • Plan arrangement of the meeting room

  • Welcome members and guests to meetings

  • Arrange for refreshments

Team Builder-PhilipWilkerson/Carolyn Van Damme

  • Look for team building opportunities

  • Plan team building events

  • Connect Parish Committee operations w/PPC

Pastoral Planning Integrator-Tom Gerard/Peg Mastal

  • Pull together a well written strategic plan

  • Integrate mission, goals, objectives, and resources

  • Facilitate the implementation of the strategic plan

Evaluation Integrator-Kathy McLean/Ralph Tindal

  • Coordinate evaluation of goals and objectives

  • Coordinate reviews and evaluations of the effectiveness of parish ministries, processes and systems, toward achieving goals.

  • Coordinate data collection efforts to support evaluations

Spiritual Formation Coordinator-Peg Mastal/Philip Wilkerson

  • Plan programs of spiritual enrichment

  • Coordinates for prayer/study portions for each meeting

  • Plans evenings of prayer or an annual PPC retreat

  • Outreach to other committees and/or parish groups in shaping their unique spiritual formation programs

Communicator (Derek Waterman/Tom Gerard)

  • Coordinate receipt & resolution of parish concerns, questions and issues

  • Ensure PPC appropriate participation and engagement (Outreach coordination)

  • Manage messages to & from PPC

Information Integrator-Ralph Tindal/Kathy McLean

  • Coordinate information inputs from members resulting from various listening sessions and open meetings with the parish and others

  • Initiate or ensures that a PPC member will prepare a first draft summary/master document of the findings from these events

  • Maintain integrated information available to planning teams
