(MSFF) Volunteer Service Opportunities
Good Shepherd Catholic Church
Jesus Christ modeled a life of service and we follow His example to grow in our faith. Each candidate will complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service, with a heart demonstrative of the gifts from the Holy Spirit.
Service opportunities and options are listed below. Please contact the Supervisor or Coordinator for each service project to schedule your community service. Once you complete ALL your service hours, fill out the Service Hours Form in its entirety, with a Supervisor's signature and turn it into Claudia DiRosario at the Parish Office no later than Thursday, February 16, 2012.
- United Community Ministries (UCM)
- Christ House
- Bethany House of Northern Virginia
- Fairfax County Adopt-A-Highway Program
- Other GS Parish Volunteer Opportunities
What Counts for Hours?
- Helping with any Good Shepherd ministry event or program (check the weekly bulletin for specific needs)
- Helping with administrative tasks like stuffing the bulletin (contact the parish office for details)
- Volunteering at any agency designed to support people in need (like soup kitchens, homeless shelters, retirement homes, hospitals, goodwill stores, etc.)
- Volunteering for an organization that benefits the community at large (like a school, library, after school program, WorkCamp, etc.)
What does NOT Counts for Hours?
- Doing chores at home—you should be doing that anyway to contribute to the needs of your family!
- Babysitting (unless you are babysitting at a community agency as outlined above, or unless you receive special permission from Claudia DiRosario)
- Volunteering for a commercial entity that is making a profit from the work being done (like a cleaning company, construction company, food preparation company, etc.)
If you’re unsure about whether a particular volunteer opportunity is appropriate, contact Claudia DiRosario, 703-780-4055.
