FACILITIES COMMITTEE
Purpose:
The purpose of the Facilities Committee is to preserve the integrity of parish facilities and grounds; maintain their accessibility, safety and security for all parishioners; monitor ongoing preventative and routine maintenance; and assist in ensuring the facilities and grounds are in excellent condition.
Activities:
Our activities, including those listed below, provide an opportunity to learn about the physical infrastructure of our parish and gain practical experience in the processes and skills necessary for maintaining a large “commercial” facility and a residence. This includes experience in both contracting for large maintenance and repairs and hands-on work in projects performed by the parishioners.
- Periodic surveys/assessments of the condition of the facility buildings and grounds.
- Preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) in advance of contracting for larger maintenance/repair projects. An example is the recent replacement of the 60 ton A/C unit that serves the Sanctuary.
- Evaluation of proposals to balance cost with the best quality workmanship and materials.
- Organization of Parishioner Work Projects. An example is the recent replacement of the 220 kneelers in the Sanctuary.
- Participation in Parishioner Work Projects, including training the volunteers in the required physical skills.
- Expert advice and assistance to the Parish Office on the administration of selected maintenance/service contracts. These maintenance/service contracts include cleaning, telephone, internet and alarm.
Volunteer Needs:
We welcome volunteers who want to participate regularly as part of our core committee or who prefer to work with us sporadically based on project needs. The Facilities Committee provides a great opportunity for our Parishioners to see the immediate results of their volunteer efforts in the quality of the environment at Good Shepherd that allows us all to worship in a safe and comfortable setting. It also provides valuable experience that can be used in the maintenance and improvement of our own homes.
